So, the other day Andy had a return/exchange/some sort of nonsense to take care of at Best Buy. Remembering back on the last time Owen and I accompanied him on such a trip I remembered the piles of DVDs that Owen tried to throw to the floor and the screaming that ensued when I told him, "No, you cannot have that remote!". Really, it was just a very stressful experience. So this time Andy dropped us off at the Barnes & Noble where I knew Owen could play with the Thomas the Train in the kids area safely, even though I know it is probably infested with every germ known to man.
Anyways... we are in Barnes & Noble and Owen is playing away and I really have to use the restroom. I try to ignore it because I don't even want to think about the logistics of trying to attempt this. But, after a few minutes I cannot ignore it anymore. I swoop Owen up and we head to the Ladies Room.
You know, Barnes & Noble is a nice store - their bathroom is a different story. So once in I decide my ultimate plan of action - the kid cannot touch anything in here. I head into a stall with Owen on my hip to take care of business. This is when I receive a look from a woman washing her hands. She was looking at me like I was crazy. I go ahead and carry out my original plan all the while thinking maybe there is some secret mom trick to using a public restroom with your 10 month old????
I ran thru the possibilities:
*If I had brought the stroller he could sit in that. But I would have had to go into the handicap stall for the both of us to fit.
* If he had been in his sling I guess I could have rigged something up where he could have hung from the purse hook, but that would have been dangerous, and time consuming.
*I guess I could set him on the floor (shudder and gag). But that is just disgusting.
What other option is there for a mom by herself with her baby on her hip with an urgent need to use the restroom?
